The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre opened to the public in 2005 and is housed in Grade II listed buildings in the middle of the author's home village of Great Missenden. The site, originally a seventeenth century coaching inn, has been renovated and adapted to include exhibition galleries, an activity room, a reception area, shop and cafe.
The museum focusses on the fun and importance of literacy. Interactive exhibits, based on the popular Dahl stories, allow visitors to explore the way in which stories are created and encourage visitors, especially children, to experiment and discover their own creative potential. The Museum also houses the Dahl archive, comprising original manuscripts, personal papers and other memorabilia. Many activities including reading, writing, storytelling, drawing/art, drama, singing, listening and playing take place in the education centre, which Biffaward is proud to be associated with. The education suite promotes literacy and will be a long-term asset for the wider community.
The Centre's application was submitted and fronted by Evolve EB on the Museum's behalf. The required ten per cent third party funding was provided by The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre.
