Biffaward Awards 2006 - Overall Winner

Organisation: Island 2000 Trust Ltd
Project: Oakfield Adventure Island
Judge: Graham Tubb

No description availableThe winning project took place in Ryde on the Isle of Wight, on a 4.5 acre site purchased from a local developer to improve the lives of people in the area. The site provides a variety of facilities and access to the countryside for local people, particularly young people. The Biffaward grant contributed to the third phase of development by funding the creation of a skate park. Previous work saw the creation of a ball court, youth zone and an inclusive play area for young and disabled children.

In the future, the Trust hopes to include a staffed adventure playground, a community café and enhanced access to the countryside, with new cycle paths and extensive wildlife improvements. It is hoped that the site will eventually evolve into a country park, offering benefits to tourists as well as local residents.
