Villagers on solid footing, thanks to Biffaward

Marsham Village Hall successfully applied for funding for a new floor, enabling their old parquet flooring to be replaced with wood effect tiles.  Unlike the previous floor, the new tiles – installed by Broadland Flooring – will be low maintenance.

The application was made through Biffaward’s Small Grants Scheme, introduced to enable groups to access lower levels of funding in order to improve the quality of life in their community.  This is the village’s second grant – in 2005, £20,435 was awarded for the hall’s extension through Rural Action East, which promotes Biffaward as part of a partnership initiative to increase the level of community funding in the eastern region.

Martin Bettington, Chairman of Biffaward, said “Biffaward is delighted to be able to support community projects such as this one in Norfolk, which will benefit not only Marsham but also its surrounding villages.”

Adrian Scargill, from the Village Hall Committee, said “The new floor has made a huge impact, improving the hall’s appearance and removing hazards posed by the old floor, which was lifting in several places.  The hall, which is available for community use, is now a much improved facility.”

Biffa provides a range of public sector, commercial and industrial waste collection services as well as the management of 33 operational landfill sites across the UK. The multi-million pound a year Biffaward fund has been set up, using tax charged on waste taken into landfill sites, to help finance environmental projects.
