Local wildlife haven wins National Biffaward Award

Biffaward is managed by the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts (RSWT), which utilises landfill tax credits donated by Biffa Waste Services. Since 1997, Biffaward has awarded over £100 million in funding to hundreds environmental and community projects across the UK.

The award followed a £2,601 grant from Biffaward which helped the Bourne Conservation Group create a community wildlife garden, acting as a green haven for local residents and wildlife. On a neglected site, local volunteer's helped clear debris, created a planting programme, refurbished existing bird boxes, installed insect habitat boxes, built compost bins and log piles, and constructed a pond

On receiving the prize, Noel Moss from The Bourne Conservation Group commented, "We're obviously thrilled to have received such an excellent award. It's taken a lot of hard work to transform the site but supporting the wildlife has helped to focus our activities. The garden is rich in wildlife and the sustainable approach we adopt to maintaining it also provides a source of education for residents and local schoolchildren. We owe a lot to Biffaward and are honoured to accept this award."

Gillian French, Programme Manager for Biffaward, commented, "The Biffaward Awards are a celebration of the outstanding Biffaward-funded projects and the commitment and determination shown by their project co-ordinators. Bourne Conservation Group beat stiff competition to win this coveted award and the thoroughly deserve to be crowned winners. Their project shows how truly important environmental spaces are within our communities and Biffaward are proud to have been able to support its transformation."
