Planting at Willsbridge Valley Local Nature ReserveWillsbridge Valley LNR, near to a heavily built up area of Bristol, provides a valuable recreational and educational facility for the local community.  As a result of heavy use the site had become severely eroded in popular areas, such as the wildlife pond and the main nature trail.

The project successfully aimed to 'enhance the wildlife and amenity value of the site'.  Work included:

  • woodland management to develop glades and provide safe visitor access
  • the resurfacing of heavily eroded paths
  • hedge planting and bank repairs at the wildlife pond
  • the installation of bird boxes
  • the planting of native shrubs and perennials in the newly completed Wild Waste Garden

Much of the work was undertaken by a group of highly committed volunteers.  The project's application outlined many opportunities for community involvement, volunteer development and raising environmental awareness.
