Evington village green, on the outskirts of Leicester, was hardly ever used. It was litter strewn and unsightly with just two very old sets of swings. The Friends of Evington Village Green was formed after the villagers petitioned for new play facilities. The Friends applied for a Biffaward grant, and in January 2007 was awarded £4,800 to contribute towards a multi play unit.

The local community was involved in the planning and development of the village green and creative input from local children was used in the design. |

The village green is now a focal point for the village - a pocket park right in the centre. The play equipment has transformed the use of the green for the whole community. The Friends have since done more fundraising and are now planning to create concrete mushrooms, climbing rocks and a roundabout to fit in with the children's original idea of a forest of play. |
